When buying a new chandelier there a a few basic tips that will help you find the correct size and wattage for any room.

  • If the room is 10' by 10', or smaller a  15" to 24" diameter chandelier would be a good size.
  • For a 10, x 10' room you should have at aroun 400 watts of light for adequate lighting
  • If the room is 12' x 12', or smaller  a 25" or 27" chandelier would be a good size.
  • For a 12' x 12' room you should have around 560 watts of light for adequate lighting
  • If the room is 14' x 14', choose a 24" to 38" chandelier would be a good size
  • For a 14' x 14" room you should have around 760 watts of light for adequate lighting
  • A chandelier should hang about 30" from the to top of the table. This will help form being bump or getting in the way
  • A chandelier should be about 12" smaller on all the sides of the table so it does not over power the design.
  • These size and wattage measurements are only a basic guideline to help find a good match for you and your home. If you are still having trouble sizing a chandelier for your home. Try cutting out a cardboard template and place it where you are going to add your chandelier. This will help you get a visual idea on how large or small your chandelier will be in your space.
When selecting a chandelier, first consider the size of the room. There are three general sizes of chandelier.
  • Small Chandelier measure 21 inches or less in diameter. Are designed for bathrooms, bedrooms accents over a island in your kitchen.
  • Medium chandeliers measure up to 34 inches in diameter. They can be used over a dinning room table, breakfast nook or in small entries.
  • Large Chandeliers range from 35 inches in diameter and up. They typically come with multiple tiers and are used in large rooms and entry ways
